Using your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, PDA, or other wireless device, you can connect to the Internet, your e-mail, and even your corporate network with ease from any Xiocom Wireless HotZone. You can enjoy the same simple and fast connections no matter where you're Xiocom Wireless HotZone location is located. What is a Xiocom Wireless HotZone? Xiocom Wireless HotZone is an area covered by our wireless signal. HotZones provide Wi-Fi wireless broadband Internet service in locations such as resorts, hotels and apartments. Using either a laptop or handheld that is Wi-Fi 802.11b wirelessly-enabled, you can access the Internet or your corporate intranet at speeds up to 50 times faster than dial-up.
Xiocom Wireless installs access points throughout each service location, which transmit a radio signal wirelessly to a user's Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless network card. With a properly installed wireless network card, a customer launches their browser from within a Xiocom Wireless service location and receives a login page to enter their user name and password. Once their account information is verified, they are able to connect to Internet resources. With full connectivity to the Internet, customers can access any Internet resources, as well as any corporate networks to which they have access from the Internet.
Can I access my corporate network using Xiocom Wireless HotZone?
If your employer has provided you with a virtual private network (VPN) client and a firewall, you can seamlessly access your corporate network. Xiocom Wireless strongly recommends that its customers take measures to ensure the security of their wireless connections, such as virtual private networks (VPNs), encryption and firewalls. As with any wireless communication, the Xiocom Wireless HotZone service is not inherently secure and you should ensure you have adequate security safeguards in place.
Do you offer dial-up services?
Our goal is to provide premier wireless broadband Internet access in public locations. Xiocom Wireless does not offer a dial-up alternative.
What operating systems are currently compatible with the service?
Xiocom Wireless HotZone is not OS-specific, and will work with any operating systems as long as there is a compatible, Internet-ready browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
Does Xiocom Wireless provide me with an e-mail account?
Xiocom Wireless does not provide e-mail accounts for its users.
Can I connect using a Macintosh computer?
Yes, Xiocom Wireless supports Macintosh users. Macs with AirPort cards installed usually require little or no configuration. You will need to set your AirPort card to select the Xiocom Wireless HotZone network. See the AirPort card documentation for specific instructions.
Can I connect using a Palm handheld device?
Yes, Palm handhelds that support Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless technology and utilize a standard Internet-ready browser, for example Palm's Tungsten C device, are compatible with the Xiocom Wireless HotZone network.
How does Xiocom's speed compare to DSL, cable and dial-up?
Xiocom lets you connect at broadband speeds of up to 2.5 Mbps (and that's just a sample of what we can do). Unlike DSL we offer the same upload and download speeds.
